As some of you might or might not be aware, Wright State has a partnership with a company called Four Paws for Ability. This is a company that raises and trains service dogs for children who need them. They raise therapy dogs, seeing eye dogs, seizure dogs, etc. I was a part of that program for the first quarter (yes, back when we were on quarters!) that it existed. My roommates and I were training a golden retriever named Etta (named after Etta James). Over spring break of that year, my roommates went on vacation, but I was lame and had no plans, so it was just Etta and I all break. And what do you do with a golden retriever that legally you can take just about anywhere with you? You go to COSI, the most interactive museum around of course!
It took some coaxing to get her in there
Having Etta was an exercise in accessibility. I learned which places are dog-friendly, and which weren't. (Chili's for example: the tables are waay too close together). But thankfully, COSI wasn't one of those places. The kids around me had a blast seeing a dog play around (particularly in the water room!) and she got lots of pets, which made her happy. But most thankfully, I didn't have a single staff member come up to me. The staff treated us like any other visitor; one of us just had four legs. So a tip: if you ever find yourself with a service dog, get yourself to COSI, it's tons of fun! Do it anyway, even without the dog!
